Fundraising success for Oscar

Staff at Worcestershire’s largest social landlord have dug deep to raise money for an appeal that has touched the hearts of the county.

Fortis Living raised an impressive £1053.40 for Oscar Saxelby-Lee, the Worcester boy who needs £500,000 for additional cancer treatment since the return of his leukaemia.

The organisations’ Chief Executive Officer has also pledged to increase this total to £1300.

The fundraising event – which took place on Friday 4 October – involved a cake sale, a dress down day and a raffle.

Oscar hit the headlines earlier this year when he needed a stem cell transplant to save his life; despite undergoing this, his leukeamia has returned.  His only hope is pioneering treatment in Singapore, at a cost of £500,000.

Charlotte  Tothill, Neighbourhood Assistant at Fortis Living and the organiser of the fundraiser said : “The plight of little Oscar has touched the hearts of many people in Worcestershire since the drive to find a bone marrow match back in February.

“Since receiving his initial treatment the family have suffered a devastating setback and it was decided that as a company we could join the community and try to help the family reach their target of £500,000. This money is to give a little boy a chance at life.

“As a company with values rooted in the community we felt it was important to come together and do what we could.

“And although the magic number has now been reached by the generosity of Worcestershire people, it looks like money is still coming in!  We wish Oscar and his family all the very best.”
